Depending on the stage of your building you may require a Performance Solution to justify the tolerances if your building is being constructed to BCA2015 or earlier.įor some background reading on stair safety you can read the report by the Monash University Accident Research Centre, which was commissioned by the ABCB to undertake a study of the incidence of slips, trips and falls and their relationship to the design and construction of buildings. It is my opinion that it is reasonable that these tolerances be applied to stairways in existing buildings regardless of which version of the BCA or NCC you are working to. This is a huge step forward as achieving consistant stair geometry in real life construction projects is sometimes difficult.
